Two Northumberland Fusilier Reburied at the Somme

1st May 2019

I've attended many military funerals but today was very special. Today we laid to rest two unknown soldiers, one positively identified as a Northumberland Fusilier and the other highly probable as they were found just ten yards apart at la Boiselle on the Somme.

Bearer party from First Fusiliers who were magnificent. Found at last after at least 103 years. Brothers laid to rest by their own regiment. Just 2 of 72000 who still lie on the Somme battlefield undiscovered after all these years.

A very proud and emotional day.
